(1) If a candidate wishes to withdraw his name to remove his name from the list of candidates, he may withdraw his name by giving a written notice to the election officer within the time specified in sub-section (2) of section 5.
(2) According to sub-section (1), the candidate himself or his representative shall file the notice of withdrawal of name.
(3) After filing the notice of withdrawal of name under sub-section (1) with the election officer, such notice shall not be revoked or withdrawn.
(4) If the election officer is satisfied about the notice filed under sub-section (1), the name of the candidate whose name has been withdrawn shall be removed from the list of candidates and the election officer shall immediately publish the notice of removal of the name in his office.
(5) In relation to any candidate who has nominated on behalf of a party, if the official of that party designated as per sub-section (1) of section 18 withdraws his name and sends it to the election officer in writing within the prescribed time as per sub-section (2) of section 5, he shall not be retained as a candidate.
